“Today marks a new beginning for Quake Live. Last year we expanded our platform to Steam, and today we have retired our old launcher and services in favor of integrating a robust array of Steamworks alternatives. We are now fully utilizing Steam for Friends, Chat, Lobbies, Voice Chat, Server Browser, Statistics, Achievements, Anti-cheat, Trading Cards, and Workshop.”
I liked this update. It gave Quake a much cleaner look, which will help it compete with all those shitty-but-pretty games on Steam.
The thing I didn’t like was they broke matchmaking, but it’s not really that bad. Things will even out if we just give them some time.
I really wish they reversed the shit they did in August 2014. Loadouts are still here, LG damage is still six… *sigh* Oh well.
lg dmg 6 is a real bummer :/
It was one of the worst things to do; force your public to be dependent from another program.
Plus the fact you’ve got to pay to play makes it even worse.
Sauerbraten on Steam greenlight plz…
Plus my fully nude Sauer stream coming soon!
The most important thing about this update for me was that people could host servers anywhere now. When they got rid of Chicago servers, the lowest ping I could get was 58 on Virginia servers – which isn’t an awful ping in Quake, but it surely feels different from 36. Now, I can get pings in the 40’s and still be able to play with Lokio when he has a ping in the 30’s / 40’s. If I had West-coast friends who played Quake, I could probably meet them part of the way and we’d both ping in the 40’s instead of me pinging 81 to the California servers while those fucks ping 10.
it’s a good update :P
the game feels ridiculously smooth. played a couple of ffa/ca matches and hit 85%+ railgun in all of them. not sure if that was just me being absurdly lucky or not, or if it’s actually easier to hit people now. my lg feels kinda similar, my rockets still suck. overall, nice update, even though i was skeptical.
gimme your steam names yo
lol people still use sourceforge
