bin64/sauerbraten.exe randomly deleted (I'm serious)
« on: April 21, 2017, 03:13:54 AM »
Earlier this week, I launched Sauer (comed) and opened the server tab. Sauer crashed. I tried running it again via the shortcut and it told me "executable bin64/sauerbraten.exe not found."

I audibly said "what the fuck."

I searched through the bin64 folder and sure enough, the executable vanished. It didn't even show up in my Trash folder. Before you ask, this is a brand new PC and so I'm clean of viruses.

As a workaround, I moved the bin/sauerbraten.exe to bin64. It worked for a little and then crashed during a /calclight. I lost an hours worth of work :^)

Obviously, I don't really want to go through this again and I just want to finish this god damn CTF map so I can finally retire.

Regardless of my personal problem, I think this is a serious bug but I'm not sure if it has to do with Comed or some sort of Sauer's incompatibility with Windows 10 -- but since I'm using Comed I think it's most appropriate to post here.

Unfortunately I didn't get an error message but if anyone else experiences this I think we should just keep a running log.
I hope I'm the only one because this would suck to happen to anyone else.

This is definitely not a comed bug, or any sauerbraten bug in the case of "zooakakadoo and the missing files". First thing that comes to mind, might be an antivirus program automatically deleting it. You might wanna check those logs for confirmation. Otherwise, except of you accidently moving the files (drag'n'droppish) to somewhere else, there isn't really anything I can think about, but a hardware fault. Yes, even new hardware can be broken.

In the case of the crash when mapping, I suspect again an Intel/AMD chipset, because you mentioned the crashes even happen with the vanilla client. If you've got Intel, my understanding is, you are fucked. In the case of AMD, you might get lucky with another driver version.
