I think that having a regular tournament again would promote players to continue playing and become more serious about the game. Nothing is a better motivator than having healthy competition. With that said, getting the word out to the world is probably just as important, if not more. There are soooo many games out there for youths and adults to play. Sauerbraten is practically unknown and primarily accessed by people looking for free games. Really, that's how I found it. But anyone reading this forum knows that when you get past the learning curve of how to aim your mouse, it's really more than just a free game. For many it's a way of life and it can become this for a very large number of people if they not only find the game, but are introduced to the community within. Questions is: what's the best way to do that?
