Title: Recommended tools - What do you use?
Post by: Acuerta on July 07, 2015, 05:37:12 PM
What tools do you use to record the scenes?

Which Sauerbraten client?

What do you use to edit and cut?

Share your recommendations below! :)

Cool shit. I'll share what I use:

Dxtory to record (it is much better than Fraps, trust me). This video (https://youtu.be/6pQcx7w2du4) helped me get great settings which I used in some MoG's and other videos I made.

Sony Vegas to edit. I haven't used many other video editors before, but I would never need to, this program does it all and at great quality. It's a little complex when getting started, but there are plenty of tutorials out there for it. (Just make sure to disable resample [motion blur], it looks like shit.)

Neither of these programs are free, but you can easily get them through torrents.

We all know I'm a shitty video editor, but I do have suggestitions!
Open Broadcasting Software works very well on Linux. If you have a 64-bit system, download both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions. Sometimes OBS completely bugs out with one of them, but I can just switch to the other version to get clips. They seem to function pretty similarily. Easier than restarting!

I snooped around with many opensource editors on linux, but every editor had some flaws which pissed me off.

So best solution for me so far is adobe premiere pro (http://"https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adobe_Premiere_Pro"), which is sadly a windows thingy.

however: i'd like to use lightworks (http://"lwks.com"). it seems to be a very promising editor, but sadly i've no sound within it... so no editing here anywhere soon.

I usually record with /movie command, usually with moview/movieh 1280/720.

Any editing is completed with Virtual Dub (http://www.virtualdub.org/)

Sauer records to .avi so VD might be useful to some.
