Include a description: I always had fun playing tremulous when I was in school. Although its been 5 years or so since I've really played Tremulous, I knew that when I saw the remake challenge I should try and re create an old favorite of mine. Sauerbraten is based off of Quake and Tremulous is based off of Quake so maybe the transition will work well. It could also be a complete failure. Who knows at this point? I wont have much time to work and Karith is a large map so I may never finish. This isnt the first remake Ive done (I did a tribute map of Tartech ((Novus Terra)) that a lot of people loved). Never really been in a mapping comp. The first one that Redon and I attempted we never finished. So... We will see. I am excited. Not sure I have any followers like I used to but I hope some people keep up with this.

Game Mode(s): CTF (Original game is a base seige strategy game so I think CTF will be main focus)

Theme: Industrial/Scifi (Again original game took place around an alien attack so Scifi will be its strongest suite)

Amount of players: Probably like... 24ish?

MOAR PICTURES!!! I also uploaded an updated version of it so you can give it a walk through if you'd like. Total invested time so far is probably 20 hours. Hopefully next weekend I will have all the lights, textures and details done. Then it will be tweaking from there.

Looks pretty splendid seen from the screenshots so far.
The lighting might be a bit brighter as it appears to be really, really dark but that's not a tough job often.
I'm glad you're managing to make spare time to map; so far I only had just half an hour to actually build something  :-\.

Anyway, nice to see the progress!

The lighting of the original map is actually pretty dark itself. Especially in the room posted most recently. I think that is because there isnt very much detail in tremulous maps. Also, Tremulous seems to have a very different lighting system. It appears to be very "spot light" oriented. Which IMO Sauer is not very well capable of. Im finiding it really hard to hide areas in darkness much like Tremulous does and yet still manage to provide light to the impotant areas. So as a result I have a mixture of both.

I finished another corridor last night. Small update. Should Have another big update tomorrow. I notice that only a couple of us are updating regularly. That makes me sad :( I was hoping I would have more to keep up on and more competition. I hope at least that my updates are keeping everyone happy. If you've downloaded the map and given it a run through, let me know what you think. Feed back is my best friend.

I try to update as much as possible and last time that occurs nearly each week.
However; I don't add a post in my entry; I rather modify the first post (which won't be shown as unread or updated topic as far as I know). On the other hand; there's nothing to see yet...

It has always been that a small group of participants make it to the very end while about half of all gives up before that. Don't get demotivated as some people start mapping rapidly the last weeks of the challenge.

The atmosphere of the original map seems to have more contrast in colour (it is more yellow then just plain white).

You are definitely correct. I was going to fix that tonight but unfortunately I can not finish in time. I am sure an extension would be nice :p but unfair to Doko who finished on time lol

I did work on the lights a little. However, I used most of my time last week to go over some stuff I had rushed through previously to meet the deadline. I also made a very large update to the exterior of the facility and can now call that part of the map complete. You could theoretically play on the outside of this map and it would be just as visually appealing as the interior. even though it is not actually a playable area. I also began a small amount of work on the red flag base and timed the... 3? possible routes between the 2 bases. I will work on it more on Saturday. At which point I will also update this post with pictures and an updated download.

Sounds crazy, but I purposefully skipped working on it Saturday. Don't worry though. I am not abusing this extension. I just really needed a break from the map. I chilled out with some friends on Sauer instead and let me tell you... I feel super motivated to finish on time.

I will be hooking my broken laptop up to my television screen for the next couple of days and sitting cross legged on the living room floor while enduring the unbearable pain that will be caused from my legs falling into slumber.

Have you ever heard of pressing the key "F12" for a screenshot or binding it to another key via bind "name_of_key" [screenshot]?

Looks more clean and professional than some console line which has been typed in.

Thanks! And no, I haven't heard of that xD I have been away from Sauer for much too long to have remembered that. I will use that when I update the original post at the end of the challenge.

I have not been keeping up with this challenge, sadly, but I am very happy that some mappers are still working with it. These maps look amazing from the screenshots and I can't wait to download the final copies. Keep up the great work guys!

Sorry guys, something came up. I didn't completely finish. Really not that much left to do. I uploaded zip to be judged. HAVE AT IT!!! and enjoy :) feed back is appreciated. I will of course make changes later and finish. Right now it is technically playable with Effic CTF, Insta CTF, Effic and Insta and whatever else has pre loaded weapons besides capture ;D Good luck getting enough people to fill it without bots :P

I don't see much of a difference with the previous version
Perhaps calling the map different (or at least the zip-file) would help.
Uploading it as an attachment is way easier also.

Is this map completed? it still has some parts with no textures. I was waiting to see other maps finished, but suicizer's maps seems to be just a half of the map... And both were looking very good! Maybe im doing something wrong?  :o

I would love to vote on this monster, but I think you should really polish up what you have at least and upload it. You put soooo much work into it already, I would really hate to see it go to waste

Let's take a peek on this map once again.

The map isn't finished, but that can't be really blamed. It's such a huge size of map that finishing 1 particular room would make only that room roughly done; but that means you still can't play it (while there is an indication now how it should be played).
On the other hand; the use of several textures which have a different quality isn't coming out great if you ask me.
For example; the 4_met01 texture of rorschach doesn't feel right next to the wall02e of trak5.

Details like the grate which has been used frequently is quite a bad cluster of detail compared to the rest of the map (and also a seriously thread on the performance). 1 grate contains 6k of wtr(!), while it could also be a model with an alpha-channelled texture instead.
The same applies on the stairway outside the building, although that can't be just fixed by replacing it by a mapmodel. Perhaps less ribs on each stair would reduce the amount of wtr while still looking good.

The atmosphere is still rough but pretty good. It's 1 of the stronger points of the map.

The flow feels good; there's enough space to navigate. Although that's a weak point of the map also as it takes ages to reach the other base. So this probably won't be a great insta- or effic-ctf map due not being able to regain health after being injured.
Perhaps it would have been better if the map was 1,5 times smaller (especially in the length of it's hallways) to fit the physics of Sauerbraten more.

I would rate this map 4/10 so far.

P.S.
I don't know how or why, but there is some z-fighting on trimmings and lamps on the walls when moving around. Very weird bug.

6k in one grate!!!! Sheesh. Didn't really pay attention to that. Thats the kind of stuff I fix before release after the map is technically finished. But the time... You know.

Texturing is good in some places while it is rather plane in others (line the outside areas). Lighting is not very good, most places are dominated by ambient light which makes them look grey and dull, but only the half-finished parts suffer this. However the finished parts are built quite well and in these parts the map has a nice feel to it and good lighting.
Of all the unfinished maps in RMC, this is the most finished, thus my final verdicts is 7/10.

This is great. I dont feel very comfortable voting unfinished maps, but i can say, for the finished part, that this could be easly one of the best. In some parts, the details are great, in other, it looks like its not enough. Some textures also dont fit too well...

The map so far is great. The details are nice, the lighting is great, the texturing is pretty nice. I can't think of much in terms of feedback, it looks like you have it pretty much under control, I would just say keep doing what you are doing and it will come out amazing. There are a few things I guess I could comment on: 1. A lot of the lighting looks too white, maybe give it some yellowish tint to make it look nicer. 2. The terrain outside could use some different texture on the top surface to give it some character, or maybe a larger texture, or even some blend-paint so it doesn't look so repetitive. 3. More details! :). I also would like to give you credit for sheer effort alone. GJ man.

I say 8/10 for what you have finished so far.

EDIT: Could you maybe move all the images but one to imgur or something? They take forever to load here every time I check this post. Would be great :)
